One million public EV charging sessions per year by 2020 on POLAR network

2nd March 2018
  • Over one million charges per year on the public POLAR EV charging network by 2020
  • Around 11 million annual charges on Chargemaster home and workplace units by 2020
  • POLAR network to have around 25,000 charging points across the UK in next three years
  • Chargemaster predicts over 500,000 electric cars on UK roads by 2020

Chargemaster, the UK’s largest electric vehicle charging infrastructure provider, forecasts that it will see over one million public charging sessions per year on its POLAR network by 2020, but with most EV charging still happening at home, with around 11 million annual charging sessions expected on its UK-made home and workplace charging points.

POLAR, the UK’s largest public charging network, will expand significantly over the coming years to provide around 25,000 charging points across the UK by the end of 2020, including several thousand rapid chargers, many of which will be 150kW units, capable of providing around 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes.

David Martell, Chief Executive of Chargemaster, said: “We will continue to provide the largest proportion of both home and public charging infrastructure in the UK in the coming years, and expect to see a huge increase in the use of both the POLAR network, and the deployment of our UK-made Homecharge units.

“Over 42,000 EV drivers in the UK already use the POLAR network, and we expect that figure to rise dramatically by 2020, when we predict there will be over 500,000 EVs on UK roads.”

As well as being the largest network, POLAR is the UK’s fastest-growing EV charging network, adding more rapid chargers every month than any other operator, delivering convenient and reliable charging for EV drivers, along with 24/7 customer support.”
